Lee Golden, PharmD: You can probably relate a lot of things to running a marathon. I don’t think running a marathon per say is for everybody, but it is something that you don’t just get up and do it. It takes time, it takes some work, it takes effort to see the result, a successful result. Us as pharmacists, it’s a career. We’re labeled, those of us who are pharmacists, are labeled as pharmacists. Being labeled as such means it’s going to be a lifetime achievement, so we’re going to have to continue to work, continue to look for those niches, continue to look for ways to improve. It’s not going to be a switch that you flip and get up and say ‘okay, today’s going to be a good pharmacy day.’ It requires a lot of work and a lot of time and effort, and I think a marathon is a good example of that. I take that same mentality into my profession. There are great challenges, there are great barriers in today’s pharmacy industry. I’m sure the same could have been said 30 years ago, well that hadn’t change. You’ve got to get up with that mentality every day that the projects we work on are going to take time. They’re going to take months. They’re going to take years.
