A man trying to rob a Walgreens was shot by police following a chase outside the pharmacy.

The incident, which occurred January 12, 2016, in the Tucson, Arizona, area, involved a man in his 30s who allegedly jumped over the pharmacy counter and demanded Percocet.

Several witnesses called 911, and police arrived in under 2 minutes, the Arizona Daily Star reported.

Officers were told that the man was armed, but they did not know exact details about the kind of situation they were walking into. Sheriff’s department spokeswoman Courtney Rodriguez told the paper that the suspect was seen with a semi-automatic gun.

The man was still in the pharmacy when police arrived, at which point he fled.

He was shot by Deputy Jay Korza, whose bullet struck the suspect in the lower back. The man was then taken to a medical center.
