Pharmacists, Pharmacies Uniquely Contribute to Barriers in Social Determinants of Health

Pharmacists are ideally positioned to screen patients for estimation aids and then refer them to services.

Pharmacy Times spoke with Richard Schmitz, PQA Chief Engagement Officer, about the unique contributions of pharmacists and pharmacies in addressing SDOH barriers.

Schmitz: Well, I think there are two key ways that pharmacists could contribute to addressing SDOH and that is the accessibility of pharmacists and pharmacies, and the community and the trust that pharmacists have with patients. And so pharmacists are ideally positioned to screen patients for estimation aids and then refer them to services.
