Pharmacists Are Essential Team Members for Managing Direct Oral Anticoagulants

Pharmacists can help patients manage their medications and any adverse effects, and can also educate patients about their condition and treatments.

In an interview with Pharmacy Times, Zachary Noel, PharmD, BCCP, discussed the presentation at the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists 2021 Midyear Meeting titled "Direct Oral Anticoagulant Dilemmas: Stroke Prevention for Atrial Fibrillation in the Oldest Old and Patients with End-Stage Renal Disease."

In the interview, Noel discussed the various roles pharmacists can play when treating patients on direct oral anticoagulants, including medication management, adverse effect management, and educating the patient.
