Loren Kirk, PharmD: The origins of the Pharmacist-Provided Care Action Guide initially started when we saw a transition in the marketplace from volume to value. So, we saw the marketplace and its reimbursement models for pharmacists began to transition from a fee-for-service model to a value, or payment for performance model. The project itself look to explore what that was, and what that transition look like in the marketplace as well as the effects it was having on the community pharmacy practice and its ability to deliver value to both the payers, plans, and patients.

The entire goal of the Pharmacist-Provided Care Action Guide project was to promote collaboration between pharmacists, payers, and technology vendors. And really these 15 actions steps and recommendations are those that are the best opportunities to promote just that, pharmacist-provided care in the community pharmacy setting.
