Mylan has introduced a generic form of Teva's Seasonique extended-cycle birth control pill to the US market.

Mylan's partner, Famy Care Ltd, recently received FDA approval for levonorgestrel and ethinyl estradiol 0.15 mg/0.03 mg tablets and ethinyl estradiol 0.01 mg tablets, which are indicated to prevent pregnancy in women who choose to use extended-cycle oral contraceptives that give them 4 menstrual periods per year instead of 1 per month.

This is the newest addition to Mylan's generic oral contraceptive line in the United States. Last month, the company began shipping a generic alternative to Teva's Seasonale.

Cigarette smoking is not advised in women who use any oral contraceptives, as it can increase the risk for cardiovascular side effects.
