Massachusetts County Kicks Off Public Safety Initiative to Reduce Prescription Drug Abuse

Law enforcement and emergency response officials in Norfolk County, MA, have kicked off a Prescription Drug Safety Initiative to help pharmacies identify possible signs of fraud or abuse. Under the initiative, police chiefs and representatives of the county’s district attorney will visit all 120 pharmacies in Norfolk County, according to the Wrentham Patch. As part of the campaign, pharmacists are encouraged to enroll in the state’s PMP, and to distribute information about safe storage and disposal of medications to patients. Pharmacists are also encouraged to review materials outlining warning signs of possible prescription fraud or abuse.
