Like the injectable drug’s branded counterpart, generic piperacillin and tazobactam is a combination penicillin-class antibacterial and beta-lactamase inhibitor indicated to treat patients with moderate to severe infections caused by susceptible isolates of certain bacteria.

Mylan’s generic version of Zosyn is available as a 3.375-g strength in single-dose vials.

Adverse side effects associated with piperacillin and tazobactam injection include bleeding problems, skin reactions, headache, trouble sleeping, severe diarrhea, constipation, and nausea.

Patients considering Zosyn are advised to inform their health care professionals if are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if they have kidney disease, congestive heart failure, or cystic fibrosis.
