Anticipating Pharmacy Trends in 2021

In a recent interview with Pharmacy Times, Barbara Giacomelli, BS Pharm, PharmD, discussed the trends she hopes to see in the pharmacy field in 2021 and where she sees the landscape changing.

Giacomelli said she believes pharmacists will continue to see close collaboration between pharmacists, the overall health system, wholesalers, and manufacturers, as well as an expansion of pharmacists’ roles in the health care system as the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic puts pharmacists on the front lines.

“I think when you look at the traditional role of a pharmacist, it’s more clinical, patient care management, drug dispensing,” Giacomelli said. “What you’ve seen over recent years is the pharmacists getting involved in vaccinations in the community, and now that’s expanding into alternate site locations and health systems, and also pulling in pharmacy technicians and students.”
